About us
On November 24, 1962, our Grand Lodge was founded in the then-state of Mato Grosso, headquartered in Campo Grande, at that time an inland city. After the state was divided, it continued its activities in the same municipality, which became our capital, and remains to this day as the SERENISSIMA GRANDE LOJA MACONICA DO ESTADO DO MATO GROSSO DO SUL.
GLEMS completed 60 years of existence in the twenty-first administrative term, led by the Most Worshipful Grand Master, Brother Ademar de Souza Freitas. For six decades, our Sublime Order has been built by the hands of valuable brothers who, with much work and the support of jurisdiction, acquired land, built temples, and their own headquarters.
Its greatest work continues to be the construction of temples to virtue, with the aim of making humanity happy through love, the improvement of customs, tolerance, and equality.
A large structure now forms the complex of the GRANDE LOJA MACONICA DO ESTADO DO MATO GROSSO DO SUL, with the administrative sector, the Grand Temple, an auxiliary temple that houses five lodges, a party hall, ample parking, and the museum, which keeps alive the memory of all who have passed through here and the great achievements of the institution, which was the third in Brazil to be recognized by the GRANDE LOJA DA INGATERRA.
The Casa de Apoio, administered by GLEMS, is a space reserved to provide free support to brothers, sisters-in-law, and nephews who come to the capital seeking medical treatment. A second unit is about to be implemented in Dourados, the second-largest city in the state, which is a health hub for more than 30 municipalities in the Southern Region.
The Grand Lodge has also just created a space to house and support paramasonic organizations such as the DeMolay Order, which teaches the values of Freemasonry to children and adolescents, and the Hikmat Shriner, an international entity dedicated to helping families in need, with children and young people up to 18 years old who were born with cleft lip, mobility difficulties due to malformation in their legs and spine, and who require treatment for burns.
For 40 years, GLEMS has laid important foundations in the society of Mato Grosso do Sul through FUNLEC – Lowtons Foundation for Education and Culture, an entity that contributes to the intellectual and spiritual development of young people and children by offering quality education based on the philosophies of Universal Freemasonry.
A precursor in the area of social assistance, GLEMS also founded the SOLAR DO TERCEIRO MILÊNIO, a hotel with 16 cozy rooms that offers affordable comfort to the Masonic family.
Today, with 65 regular lodges in 38 municipalities in MS, totaling a membership of more than 2,300 active workers, GLEMS is proud to present new projects aimed at the growth of the Order, bringing modernity and comfort to the brothers of the SERENISSIMA GRANDE LOJA DO ESTADO DO MATO GROSSO DO SUL.
