Who We Are
On November 24, 1962, our Grand Lodge was founded in what was then the State of Mato Grosso, with its headquarters in Campo Grande, at the time an inland city. After the division of the state, it continued its activities in the same municipality, which became our capital, and remains to this day as the MOST SERENE GRAND LODGE OF FREEMASONS OF THE STATE OF MATO GROSSO DO SUL.
GLEMS celebrated its 60th anniversary during its twenty-first administrative term, led by the Most Serene Grand Master, Brother Ademar de Souza Freitas. For six decades, our Sublime Order has been built by the hands of valiant brothers who, with much work and the support of the jurisdiction, acquired land, built temples, and established its own headquarters.
His greatest work remains the building of temples to virtue, with the aim of making humanity happy through love, the improvement of morals, tolerance, and equality.
Today, a large structure forms the complex of the GRAND LODGE OF FREEMASONS OF THE STATE OF MATO GROSSO DO SUL, comprising the administrative sector, the Grand Temple, an auxiliary temple housing five lodges, a banquet hall, ample parking, and the museum, which keeps alive the memory of all who have passed through here and the great achievements of the institution, which was the third in Brazil to be recognized by the GRAND LODGE OF ENGLAND.
The Support House, managed by GLEMS, is a space reserved to provide free support to siblings, sisters-in-law, and nephews/nieces who come to the capital seeking medical treatment. A second unit is about to be established in Dourados, the second largest city in the state, which is a health hub for more than 30 municipalities in the Southern Region.
The Grand Lodge has also just created a space to house and support para-Masonic entities such as: the DeMolay Order, which teaches the values of Freemasonry to children and adolescents, and the Hikmat Shriner, an international organization dedicated to helping needy families with children and young people up to 18 years old who were born with cleft lip, difficulty walking due to malformation of the legs and spine, and who need treatment for burns.
For 40 years, GLEMS has laid important foundations in the society of Mato Grosso do Sul through FUNLEC – the Lowtons Foundation for Education and Culture, an entity that contributes to the intellectual and spiritual development of young people and children by offering quality education based on the philosophies of Universal Freemasonry.
A pioneer in the area of social assistance, GLEMS also founded SOLAR DO TERCEIRO MILÊNIO, a hotel with 16 comfortable apartments, offering comfort to the Masonic family at an affordable price.
Today, with 65 regular lodges in 38 municipalities of Mato Grosso do Sul, totaling more than 2,300 active members, GLEMS is proud to present new projects aimed at the growth of the Order, bringing modernity and comfort to the brothers of the MOST SEREN GRAND LODGE OF THE STATE OF MATO GROSSO DO SUL.
