To be a Freemason
The Candidate Admission Process
The prerequisites for a candidate’s admission relate to their standards of conduct within the community to which they belong, with acceptance of admission primarily dependent on the candidate’s declaration of the reasons why they wish to become a Freemason. Thus, it is expected that, when completing the application form, the candidate will be sincere with their own conscience.
Is there a required level of education to be admitted into Freemasonry?
For the Lodge to be complete and balanced, it is good to preserve the diversity of professions and cultural levels among its members; therefore, a specific level of education is not required for admission. However, the individual must be proficient in reading texts, given that instructions are also transmitted through writing.
Does Freemasonry Require the Fulfillment of Obligations?
Upon initiation into Freemasonry, a citizen must undertake commitments, as in any human association, that reflect their responsible choice. This will occur through the commitment to study Masonic instructions with an open mind, as well as to consider the teachings received confidential and to contribute financially to the maintenance of their Lodge. In short, there will be commitments as in any human association.
Does Freemasonry Include a Religious Aspect?
Yes! It contemplates the religious aspect, because it recognizes the existence of a single creative, regulating, absolute, supreme and infinite principle, which it calls the GREAT ARCHITECT OF THE UNIVERSE.
However, Freemasonry does not claim to replace religion in the lives of Freemasons. To be a member of Freemasonry, a citizen must profess a firm belief in God, enjoy a good reputation, and have an irreproachable conduct, regardless of their religious beliefs. Being a good member of their religion will likely make them a good Freemason, and they will learn how to cultivate moral virtues in their daily life, living under the Fatherhood of God, the Brotherhood of men, and the Immortality of the Soul in their Lodge.
Women's Participation
Universal Freemasonry, which admits men, has as an essential principle in its fundamental principles the practice of the first of virtues: HUMAN SOLIDARITY. In this aspect, it counts on the valuable participation of women, since the family is never excluded from Masonic activities.
Thus, there are several Masonic associations for women, such as the Acacia Association, the Order of the Rainbow, and the International Order of the Daughters of Job, which develop social activities and their own rites, in order to bring together young women between the ages of 11 and 19, in the development of their talents, qualities, and leadership potential.
The Order of the Eastern Star is intended for Master Masons, their wives, and adult women, in which young women who have completed their studies in the Rainbow Assemblies and Bethels of the Daughters of Job continue their studies.
What can we do to help?
We are convinced that, upon joining Freemasonry, one ceases to be an ordinary human being, and we believe that all will enjoy the real benefits of an Institution whose moral and ethical principles have stood the test of time. Freemasonry is, above all, a way of life and is always concerned with family, with kindness in the home, with honesty in business, with good social conduct, with pleasure in work, with piety and sincere concern for the less fortunate, with helping the weak, with forgiveness for the penitent, with love for one’s neighbor and, above all, with reverence for God.
Our doors are always open to welcome members of the Freemason’s family, and our hearts are always focused on their quality of life. Through the new member of the Order, who is a member of their family, or through the Worshipful Master of their Lodge, we are always ready to assist and help them.
